T.S. Eliot and the Midnight Oil

A recent article in the New Yorker sheds new light on T.S. Eliot and his relationship with the London literati of his day. Some folks apparently found him tedious with his reported lack of charisma, sartorial fastidiousness, and perhaps over-the-top cheese fetish. It is certainly encouraging to know that he did his greatest work while grinding along at a day job. One has to appreciate a victory for the burners of midnight oil.

The Pronouns Tell All

This evening I read an article about pronoun use and identity. More often than not, a person of relatively lesser status uses the words "I" and "we" more often in conversation and correspondence than a person of relatively higher status. Such a notion makes this particular reader reluctant to use the first person singular.

Lately I have taken an interest in the history of Texas music. I have been listening to variations of Saint James Hospital, the song from which The Streets of Laredo originated.
